Our first Khaanasutra took us to Ahmedabad where our experiences ranged from the pure vegetarian cuisine of the Jain religion to the large meat-filled thaals of the Bohra Muslim communities. Walks along the jewellery street that transform into bustling food markets in the night and visit to snack making factories run by enterprising women gave us an insight into the food obsession of this city.  From Ahmedabad, our journey took us to Amritsar where we participated in the community services in the kitchens of the magnificent Golden Temple and also indulged in the rich food available in the various dhabas.

Our next stop was Kolkata where we tasted the British and Chinese and the Lucknow influences on the food as well as visited homes serving an authentic Bengali meal. Our last stop was Hyderabad where we cooked Biryani with a Muslim Family as well as enjoyed the delights of the fiery Andhra cuisine.

Since the past several years, Detours has been helping Primary Conference Organisers (PCOs) and conference associations alike to help delegates and their spouses with their sightseeing needs. We curate large group tours of the city led by authorised English Speaking Guides. Apart from the regular sightseeing tours, we also offer specialised tours led by experts. These include Shopping Excursions, Rock Walks, cooking lessons and culinary tours. The tours are planned keeping the conference schedule and local festivals in mind and the services include managing bookings through the on-site Tour Desk during the conference as well.

For large groups, we have a few exciting options to explore the city of Hyderabad. Moving away from the regular bus tours, we create activities like Heritage Races, Cookouts & Food Relays and other interesting experiences that help the guests discover the city’s culture, history and its cuisine in an interactive manner. Maybe you are in the HR Department and want your new recruits to bond and understand a city they may have moved to or you’re a Business Head who is hosting a global leaders’ team meeting and want them to interact with each other in an informal setting, get in touch with us and we will put together a special experience for you.

Our three-hour long walks in the city help travellers explore the old city area more thoroughly. These walks are non-private ones and we run the walk if we have a minimum of two guests.

The Charminar Walk covers the important monuments like the Charminar, Mecca Masjid, Chowmahalla Palace and the Laad Bazaar market.

We also have the Hidden Hyderabad Walk that explores the hidden devdis (large homes or havelis) of the noblemen of the past, interesting Sufi Shrines and other lesser-known monuments of the city.

If you are a foodie, you will definitely be interested in our Old City Food Walk where we trace the evolution of the cuisine of this region including tasting of some local dishes. The meeting point is usually the Charminar entrance and the walk ends somewhere around that area as well.

Apart from the above walks, we also have some periodical special walks like the Ramzan Food Walk (during Ramzan/Ramadaan) and the Ashurkhana Walk (during Moharram).
